I have always believed that an international holiday promises more than just a change of scenery; it is a gateway to new experiences, languages, cuisines, and cultures that stay with us long after we return home. However, I have also learned that the difference between a trip that is merely “good” and one that is truly unforgettable is meticulous planning and preparation.
Navigating the complexities of global travel can feel daunting. To help you manage the challenges and considerations, I have compiled my most critical steps for planning your next international escape.
Researching & Choosing Your Destination
When I help clients choose their next destination, I start by digging deep into their personal interests. Whether you are drawn to the pulse of a bustling city, the serenity of a remote landscape, or the depth of historical sites, I ensure we find a location that aligns with your vision.
I always advise researching weather and seasonality, as these significantly impact your experience. I look at the climate for your planned dates, as this dictates not only your packing list but also which activities will be available to you.
Furthermore, I am vigilant about safety. I constantly review official government advice to stay informed about the security situation in any destination I recommend. My priority is to keep you informed of any restrictions or health warnings that might influence our planning. Finally, I encourage learning about the local culture and etiquette. Familiarising yourself with the norms and traditions of a region isn’t just respectful; it is the best way to ensure you have meaningful and appropriate interactions with the local community.

Setting Your Budget
Budgeting is a fundamental part of the process, and I help my clients navigate this with clarity. I assist in evaluating the overall costs—accommodations, dining, transport, and excursions—to ensure we are realistic about what you can afford.
I always suggest building in a buffer for those unexpected costs that can occasionally arise. I encourage you to prioritise your spending based on what matters most to you. If a once-in-a-lifetime cultural experience is more important than a luxury suite, I will reallocate your budget to make that happen. My role is to help you optimise costs by finding the best value, exploring off-peak travel times, and identifying budget-friendly activities that don’t compromise on quality.
Preparing Proper Documentation
In my experience, having your documentation in order is the cornerstone of a seamless journey. Before we set any plans in motion, I meticulously check passport and visa requirements.
I make sure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your return date, as this is a strict requirement for many countries. I also research the specific visa landscape for your chosen destination—whether you need one in advance, if it is visa-free, or if you can obtain one on arrival.
Throughout the process, I maintain a comprehensive checklist of everything you need, including travel insurance details, itineraries, and reservations. I also advise keeping both physical and digital copies accessible. If it is beneficial for your destination, I can also help you register with your embassy or consulate, which ensures you receive timely updates and support should any emergencies arise.

Mapping Out Your Itinerary
Crafting a balanced itinerary is one of my favourite parts of the planning process. I focus on identifying the “must-see” attractions based on your interests, while ensuring we allot sufficient time for each so you don’t feel rushed.
I am a strong advocate for mindful pacing. I design itineraries that integrate cultural and leisure activities—such as exploring local markets or spending an afternoon in a quiet park—to help you truly absorb the history and rhythm of a place. I always leave room for flexibility; spontaneity is often where the most cherished memories are born. By grouping activities geographically, I maximise your time on the ground, ensuring your trip is as efficient as it is enriching.
Purchasing Travel Insurance
I cannot overstate the importance of comprehensive travel insurance. It provides the financial protection and peace of mind you need when venturing abroad. It covers medical emergencies, trip interruptions, lost luggage, and more.
Rest assured, your holiday is fully protected through either ATOL or ABTA, depending on the specific details of your booking.
However, please be aware that I do not sell travel insurance directly, as this is a personal policy that must be arranged by you. That said, I am more than happy to guide you toward a trusted, preferred supplier. If you would like a recommendation, simply tick “No” on the quote form where it asks if you already have travel insurance, and I will be happy to provide you with the details.
